Period spec was seasonal straight-grade oil — lighter in winter, heavier in summer. SAE 30 is the common modern choice in a sound engine. Kerosene running dilutes the oil, so period practice was a change roughly every 50 working hours.

Heavy mineral gear oil. Use GL-1 (non-EP) — modern EP additives can attack the bronze in the worm final drive.

Splash lubrication and the water-washer air intake make oil and water checks part of daily operation. Capacities are from period manuals and owner references — published Fordson figures vary more than any later Ford, so confirm against your own manual.

Same fill as the transmission housing. The steering box takes an extreme-pressure lubricant, checked every 200 hours.

Fluid guidance comes from Ford's own wartime maintenance instructions (1942). The oil-bath air cleaner holds about 6 pints of clean engine oil, and there are 19 grease points — the steering gear wants the grease gun nightly in season.
